It's been our mission since we bought this house to never see yellow oak again!
The problem: Light oak staircase... oh...and no carpet
Time for a makeover....
We began by taping the spindles and carpet at the bottom of the newels (post) to protect our new carpet.
Buhbye yellow oak...

This is one coat of gel stain.
If you desire a darker look this can be achieved by applying another coat.

I have the same honey oak staircase i want to change darker as well. Did you sand or strip the honey oak first or just put the gel stain on? Did you put a coat of poly on after...
ReplyDeleteThanks.

yes, we lightly sanded the wood so the gel stain would adhere better. We used a water based (brush-on) poly-urethane
ReplyDeleteWhat brand and color of gel stain did you use? It looks awesome!
